Today I’ve found myself looking back over the last 17 years of my NHS journey — from starting out as a Service Desk Engineer to growing into a senior developer role that now wears many hats.
Over the years, I’ve moved through roles in infrastructure support, information analytics, and software development. One of the most challenging projects was leading the implementation of our Trust’s integration engine to work with the new PAS — including full ADT and order comms. It was a major undertaking with lasting impact.
The most rewarding, however, was building and implementing OurSpace — the wellbeing portal I created for our Trust. It gives staff unrestricted access to a wealth of resources, from mental health support to guidance for first-time parents. If it relates to wellbeing, it’s there.
Wellbeing is something close to my heart, and creating OurSpace got me thinking… maybe my future lies in this space. I have ideas, and now it’s a matter of seeing if they can take shape.
As I look ahead, I find myself in a place of uncertainty. After wearing so many hats, I’m reflecting deeply on what I can offer next — and what the NHS can offer in return. It’s a confusing place to be, but also full of possibility.
The next few months will be key as I try to shape the future of my career within the NHS. I have a vision — now I just need the confidence to get it heard by the people who can help make meaningful change happen.
I’d love to connect with others navigating similar crossroads in their NHS careers. Let’s share ideas, experiences, and maybe even a bit of clarity.
